Alice Temperley

Alice Temperley is a British fashion designer who has made her mark in the fashion industry with the party frocks she once designed and now creates red carpet worthy outfits. She was born on July 22, 1975 in Somerset where she grew up on her parent’s cider farm. Temperley acquired formal education in fashion design from London’s Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins before establishing her own company with her then boyfriend Lars von Bennigsen in 2000. The designer has made her mark in the fashion industry for with her focus on using beautiful material and perfect hand finishes.

Temperley made waves in the industry with her first fashion show held in Notting Hill in 2003. Her career moved forward from strength to strength with her collections being displayed in New York from 2005 till 2011 regularly. She went back to London in 2011 for her brand’s tenth anniversary at the British Museum. Consistently from 2009 till 2011, she used media installations at her fashion shows rather than conventional catwalk only. Alice’s company, Temperley London currently produces three clothing lines ALICE by Temperley, Temperley London and Temperley Bridal. All three lines produce ten collections a year including Pre fall and cruise.

Alice’s third line called Temperley Bridal was launched in 2007 followed by the launch of its sister brand ALICE by Temperley in 2010 which was targeted at young demographic consisting of casual outfits with affordable price tag. ALICE by Temperley made its debut at high end department stores the world over including Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Neiman Marcus and Net-a-Porter. Alice is the owner of five boutiques currently. She has two stores in the city of London; one flagship store at Bruton Street on Mayfair and the second one at Notting Hill which sells occasion wear. Temperley’s other stores are located in Doha, Los Angeles and Dubai. It is also worth mentioning that Temperley London has managed to reach out to its customers worldwide with its collections being sold in over 37 countries at about 300 outlets.

Temperley in collaboration with British retailer came up with a high street fashion line in September 2012. Despite the fact that it was the designer’s first collaboration, it was tremendously successful and became the fastest selling clothing line in the history of the department store. Alice Temperley brilliant career is marked by the many awards she’s received from time to time for her outstanding work. In 1999, she won the English Print Designer of the Year Award in Indigo, Paris. In 2004, she received the Best Young designer of the Year Award from Elle Magazine. She won the Designer of the Year Award at the Hollywood Style Awards in 2011. Alice also became an Honorary Members of the Order of the British Empire in 2011 New Year Honors for services in the fashion industry presented by Queen Elizabeth II.  She was also named one of the top female business leaders of Britain in 2006. The Duchess of Cambridge, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Beckinsale, Kiera Knightley, Demi Moore, Kate Bosworth, Heidi Klum, Eva Mendes, Halle Barry and Kate Hudson are all admirers and wearers of Temperley’s designs.

In 2014, Temperley London entered its fourteenth year of business headed by Creative Director Alice Temperley and her husband Lars von Bennigsen as the CEO.
