Stella McCartney

Born in 13th September 1971, Stella Nina McCartney is a fashion designer from England. Her is the daughter of Paul McCartney of Beatles and her mother Linda McCartney, is known for being an American animal right activist and photographer. When Stella was a young, she travelled around the world with her siblings, whenever her parents set out for their music tours. Despite the popularity surrounding the family, Stella’s parents wanted their kids to live like normal people. This is why the children studied at local government schools, such as Bexhill College in East Sussex. After Linda’s death, Stella’s father later married Heather Mills and from her, Stella has a step sister, Beatrice Milly McCartney. At her school, Stella claimed to be a bully and a victim of it too.

In 2003, Stella married Alasdhair Willis, a publisher from Britain. The wedding ceremony was held at Mount Stuart House on the Isle of Bute. Stella’s dress was her mother’s, but it was updated a bit. The couple have four kids: Beckett Robert Lee Willis, Miller Alasdhair James Willis, Reiley Dilys Stella Willis and Bailey Linda Olwyn Willis.

Stella McCartney was interested in designing apparel since she was thirteen and hence made a jacket for the first time. After three years, she worked on Christian Lacroix‘s collection as an intern, trying to hone her abilities. She did her bachelor from Ravensbourne Co lege of Design and Communication and then completed her graduation from Central Saint Martins Art and Design College in the 90s. In 1995, her thesis collection was flaunted by friends and models, Yasmin Le Bon, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss – for no cost. The show was accompanied by a song by her father, Stella May Day, and the collection made headlines on front-page. A boutique in London called Tokio, bought her entire collection. Moreover, stores including  Neiman Marcus, Browns and Bergdorf Goodman got the designs licensed. After graduation she was hired at Chloé, as Creative Director, in Paris. She designed wedding gown for her sister’s wedding in 1998.

Stella never uses fur or leather in her apparel or accessories since she is a strict vegetarian. She supports People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), an organization for animal rights. Some of her designs include text with statements that elaborate her thoughts on this subject. A jacket she made for Adidas had the following line written, “suitable for sporty vegetarians”.  However, the designer does use materials like silk and wool.

The millennium brought in more opportunities for Stella. She collaborated with Gucci to launch her fashion house. She also introduced her first fragrance and a line of skin care products, CARE.  Furthermore, Stella launched a line of lingerie as well as a whole collection for children and newborns. Stella McCartney runs seventeen stores and new are being opened. Her collection is sold in more than fifty countries. In 2011, she designed costumes for Ocean’s Kingdom, a production by the New York City Ballet.

Stella McCartney has won several awards for her outstanding performance in the fashion industry and for her efforts to spread social awareness. She has received awards from Vogue’s 2000 Designer of the year award in New York. The same year she designed a dress for Madonna for her wedding with Guy Ritchie. Around this time she received an award of courage for working against cancer. In 2013, for her services to the fashion industry, she was made the Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
